**********Explanation- "Of Lords and Land"*****************
1) Instructions and Changes
Copy the file "rules.txt" into C:\mps\civ2 or wherever directory
your civ2 game is currently in. There is no "units.gif" included in the
zip. No, I didn't forget it this time. This scenerio uses the regular
pictures, even though most of the units have changed. For example,
the "phalanx" unit is now "soldiers" and its function is no longer to
defend, but also to attack.
Other changes include:
"Pikemen" is now "Castle Guards" but mostly the same.
"Legions are now "Swordsmen" with a slightly higher attack factor.
"Horsemen" do not become obselete but are still pretty weak.
"Crusaders" are now "Armored Knights"
"Warrors"" are now "Viking Warriors" and are much higher (and can make
amphibious assaults but only by vikings)
Some new units- "Celtic warriors" "Norman Vikings" "Viking warship"
Some new sciences also. All governments are monarchies, but they now
pay for 6 units per city. You may also notice some other changes.
2) Introduction and Notes
There are 7 civilizations playing on a map of Great Britain
Normandy.
Irish Celts- Your coast is under attack by vikings. Your real power
lies inland. Build fortresses where neccesary to keep the
invaders out. Don't try to seek help from or attack
any of the other Celts or Britains, you are still too
isolated. Building a small navy in Northern Ireland could
change that....
Anglo-Saxons- Your empire controls the English mainland but it is in
big trouble. The vikings are attacking the north, and the
Normans are attacking the south. Make peace with the
independants and the Celts and then concentrate on the
Normans. Hadrian's wall (the great wall) has just become
obselete so city walls is a top priority.
Normans- Conquering the Anglo-Saxons is your goal, but don't be
to turn on your allies the vikings. Your large army must
establish a strong hold in southern england first, then
you will need reinforcement from home before heading north.
Independant English- Your power is very weak, but you are friends with
Normandy, and that could turn out to make the
difference. Build each of your cities independanly,
and defend your trade intrests. Conquering England
with this civilization will be the ultimate
challenge for all you experts out there.
Briton Celts- You have the chance to turn Wales into a fortress. Use
it! Renew peace with England, then land settlers to the
south in Wessex and then brace yourself. When you feel the
need to expand, the independants are the obvious goal,
but the central Anglo-Saxons will not
be out of the question once the Normans arrive.
Scotts- Like the Welsch, you now have a chance to build up your army.
When the time is right, bribe the Anglo-Saxon forts and
begin your conquest with northern England.
Vikings- The people of the boats need a permanant home, and Briatin
in its darkest hour may be the answer. Attack on all fronts,
using your warriors to attack from the ships. Ireland is a
perfect target. Build up your forces in the Danelaw too, the
time to strike could happen at any second.
3) The Map
The archive also includes the map of Britain. Use it however you
like. If you wish to begin a new game on the map, I advise, you to alter the rules.txt
file so that "Babylonians" are the Irish, "Spanish" are the scotts, "Mongols" are the normans,
and the "Americans" are Saxons.
I give permission for these files to be distributed in any way.
